The Underdog
Sunday night I watched, one of the best Superbowl’s of all time. The reason why is because of the underdog. No not the New York Giants but Eli Manning. It all started with the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers. When the Giants won in overtime, I watched as Eli ran on the field and the only one to give him a hug was the place kicker. I thought to myself it’s obvious this guy isn’t getting any respect and even on his own team is the underdog. I decided right there that I was going to get behind this guy and hope that he would win a Superbowl. Of course he didn’t disappoint and drove his team the length of the field with only a few minutes left and upset one the of the greatest teams of all time.
Over the years I’ve felt like an underdog many times, so I have a special place in my heart for those who no one gives a chance. Though I don’t give to much to the fact of relating to an NFL game, there are many who are down and out in life or have to overcome insurmountable odds to make it in this world. I love it when the whole world says no, but you or I can say yes. Helping the underdog is a passion of mine because every time someone makes it, it’s like being a part of history.
Jesus had an incredible passion for the underdog. Matter of fact the bible is full of stories from the life of Jesus, where he was the only one willing to help people like, lepers, cripples, mothers and children. When ever it seemed like there was no hope, Christ would come on the scene and save the day.
Why you may asked? Because Jesus was the greatest underdog of all time. No one really gave him a chance, even his own disciples doubted him and his proclamations. In the end, he rose from the grave conquered death and the grave and provided life for all who would believe in him.
Thank God for the underdog, who came for underdogs like myself!
